The City Hall is where you pay your city and Forest Municipal School District taxes. The School District is located in the City and surrounding area outside the city. Pay school taxes at the City Hall and county taxes at the Scott County Courthouse, phone number 469-4051.

When you become a homeowner, you will need to file regular homestead exemption. This can be done in January, February, and March only at the Scott County Courthouse at the tax collectors office, where you pay your county taxes and get your car tag. You do not have to file every year unless there is a change like a name change or age. January, February and March the year after you turn 65 you will need to take proof of your age to the same office where you filed for regular homestead so you can get additional credit on your taxes. Also if you filed for regular homestead you can get additional credit on your taxes if you are disabled, you can get extra credit by taking a letter from the Social Security Office stating the date of your disability. When you file at the county this will give you credit at City Hall on your city taxes also.

If you live in the City you can register to vote at the City Hall or at the Circuit Clerks office in the Courthouse. We are divided into five wards. The voting places for city elections are: Ward 1: Slaughter Library, 668 Jones Street; Ward 2: American Legion Hut, 1030 West 3rd Street; Ward 3: Forest Community Center, 477 West 3rd Street; Ward 4: Forest Service Center, 970 East 1st Street; Ward 5: City Hall, 120 South Davis Street. You may vote at a different place for county elections.

If you operate a business in the City of Forest, you must purchase a privilege license at City Hall. The prices vary according to the type of business and number of employees.

The City Hall is where you get your water service. The deposit for water is $75.00 or $100.00. You will receive a water bill around the first of each month which will include water change, sewer charge and garbage pick-up. Flat rate water is $13.50, this includes sewer and garbage charge. Garbage is picked up twice a week — North of Hwy. 80 on Monday and Thursday except the area west of 35 and North of Hwy is picked up on Tuesday and Friday along south of Hwy. 80. It will be picked up on the street in cans or bags — Trash pick-up does not have any certain pattern. They start on one side of the town and go to the other side, and then they start all over again.

If you receive a ticket given by Forest Police Department, it can be paid at the Forest Police Department, 850 Park Road, phone number 469-4141. If the state Trooper or the Sheriffs' Deputies give you a ticket, you will pay it at the Scott County Courthouse, 100 East 1st Street, phone number 469-4555.

To obtain or renew your drivers licence you will go to the Forest Police Department on Thursday and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The phone number is 469-3256.
